Patient Cases

The patient is a 44-year-old female with complaints of fatigue, generalized pain throughout her body, wakes up in am tired, and overall does not feel well.  She has had 3 children and had a hysterectomy 3 years ago for excessive bleeding. She does have hot flashes at night with sweating, dry skin, losing some hair, cold intolerance, gained weight despite watching her diet, foggy mind, constipation, decreased skin drive, and anxiety. She was seen by her PCP who did the usual blood tests and the provider’s medical assistant called a week later stating that her results were within normal limits.  They recommend that she watch her diet, take Advil, use moisturizer creams, and exercise more. She does not know what to do since she just does not feel normal.
She is seen at Regenerative Stem Cell and Wellness where the lab tests were examined and a few extra tests were ordered.  Indeed, on the tests done by her PCP, her results were within normal limits but they were on the low end of the range. Lab tests are given a range of normal based on thousands and thousands of patients. However, a normal low for you could mean that you are extremely low because your body functions at a higher blood level. It is important to look at your symptoms as well as what the tests indicate. In her case, her thyroid test results were on the low side but with her symptoms, it was important to start her on natural thyroid medications to see how her symptoms changed.  In addition, it was found that she was low on her estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone. She was given bioidentical hormones to help her with her symptoms. Other testing showed low vitamin B12, vitamin D3, and magnesium. These are common low values which are seen often as we age. She was prescribed methylated vitamin 12, the active form of vitamin D – D3 and started on magnesium.
Within a month she was feeling better with more energy, improved memory, no hot flashes, and decreased dry skin. She was starting to feel better.  The important fact is that she needs to have her lab work rechecked in 3 months to adjust her medications. This is vital to adjust her medications based on labs and symptoms in order to fine-tune her results as she ages.

The patient is a 39-year-old blue collar worker who injured his back at work.  He was evaluated by his PCP who recommended physical therapy, an anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant, and a few pain pills.  He completed the physical therapy but still had pain in his back which would on occasion radiate down his left leg. He was referred to an orthopedic surgeon who did an X-ray and also later an MRI of his lower spine. He was given the same type of treatment at that time.  The patient went to a chiropractor who did adjustments, cold laser, and tried a back brace. Despite all the therapies, he continued with the same discomfort. The orthopedic surgeon then referred him to a pain management specialist who felt that the MRI was not conclusive of any serious problems but that the patient needed epidural injections in his back.  The treatment only lasted a month before he was back in pain. Over the next six months, he ended up having another round of steroids which lasted only 2 weeks. He was told that he would have to deal with the pain or have surgery. There was no guarantee that the surgery would help him but that there were no other alternatives.
He was seen at Regenerative Stem Cell and Wellness where he was evaluated for his pain. He had been on numerous medications but still having pain.  It was noted that the pain was increased with movement. He was told that often the steroids used in the epidural work at first but start to damage the ligaments and tissues leading to more laxity and discomfort. It was discussed how umbilical cord stem cells being injected into his facet joints in his lumbar/lower back would help stabilize the ligaments and stop the discomfort. The pain down the leg was caused as he moved, and the vertebrae would shift irritating the nerve root.
He elected to have the stem cells injected into his back.  The procedure was done under a sterile procedure using a fluoroscopic X-ray to visualize the exact area where the stem cells needed to go.  In addition, he was to receive a dose of amniotic fluid which would stop the inflammation and pain. The combination of stem cells and amniotic fluid provides hundreds of different chemicals which help stop the pain and heal the ligaments. It is a natural method of healing the back.  The procedure last 20 minutes with the actual injection being around 5 minutes. He was told to resume his normal activities and not to do any heavy lifting or exertion for a month or two. He was told that the pain would start to decrease in the next week and that the stem cells start to kick in at 2 months and keep working up to a year at a minimum.  He also received some ozone (pure oxygen with an additional electron on the oxygen O3 instead of O2 which helped stop the pain and provide pure oxygen for the stem cells. He was told to follow up if needed with his chiropractor for adjustments and laser therapy. After two months, he reported that he had minimal pain and was back at work. He felt that he was improving more every day.  He was not taking anti-inflammatories or any other medication.

After injuring his right knee during a softball game, this 50-year-old patient was unable to do his usual activities and was using a cane to get around.  He has seen by the orthopedic surgeon who did an MRI which showed a partial tear of his meniscus and osteoarthritis of the knee. He was told that he needed surgery with the repair of the meniscus and he might need a total knee replacement.
He was unsure of the surgery and did not want a knee replacement yet.  He realized that the total knee replacement would sideline him for a month or two plus he would have significant pain. His friends have had the surgery and he noted their discomfort and pain.
He was seen at Regenerative Stem Cell and Wellness where he was told that umbilical cord stem cells, Wharton’s Jelly, and amniotic fluid would be a solution to his problem.  The Wharton’s Jelly from the delivery of the infant contains an extremely elevated level of hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate, growth factors, and other natural chemicals which would support his knee. The stem cells would stimulate his own stem cells to heal the torn meniscus and the amniotic fluid would be a major source of anti-inflammatories and growth factors.  Although insurances do not yet pay for stem cells he realized that his co-payment and his deductible would be much higher than the cost of the stem cells if he had the knee replacement. Also, with the knee replacement, he would be off work up to 6 weeks with a lot of pain.
He came to the clinic and had his knee prepped. Using either a fluoroscopic X-ray or ultrasound, a small needle the size of an insulin syringe was placed into his knee joint. After the needle was placed he received all three agents in one syringe through the needle and then using the same needle without it being removed a dose of ozone to help the stem cells grow.  The procedure was around 10 minutes. He was able to walk out of the clinic without help and was able to go back to work the next day. He was told that the pain would start to decrease over the next week and in two months the stem cells are in full force healing his knee. At his one month visit, he had minimal pain and was back at most of his usual activities. After two months he was doing well and was able to return to his usual activities.
As we age we make less and fewer stem cells. Stem cells throughout our lives have been used when we have an injury or a disease to repair the damage. But we do not have enough often to repair the insults to our bodies. Whether it is an injury or an autoimmune disease like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, and other chronic illness we need stem cells to heal us. There has been evidence that stem cells given either intravenously or intramuscular provide the necessary stimulation to boost our own natural stem cells to heal the body.
At Regenerative Stem Cell and Wellness, it has been found that giving 4 million stem cells or more can help reduce the symptoms we have.  It is also important to have proper nutrition with the stem cells and often other nutraceutical products to stimulate the stem cells to maximize their effectiveness. This wellness injection can be given every two to three months or twice a year. Combined with the complete program this injection can improve your health and quality of life.
